A tough, no-nonsense woman by the look of her, with a strong jawline, high cheekbones, and a steely gaze. Her left eye has been replaced with a glittering ruby, and several scars mar her face around the eye, suggesting how she lost it.

Personality

A stern, but passionate woman. She keeps her emotions largely to herself, but don’t hesitate to offer her service or wisdom when asked.

Background

The first member of Countess Amaltheia’s honor guard. Lauria is probably best known for the Treasure that replaced her eye. It was Lauria that convinced Amaltheia to swear fealty to House Fiona when she became the Baroness of the Big Easy. She was the first to offer her blade in Amaltheia's service, and she has taken her role as bodyguard very seriously. Little is known of her origins, as she tends to play things very close to the chest. Even Sir Vashen, with whom she once shared a brief romance, knows very little of her. When asked, Lauria simple states that her past is unimportant; only her duty is important. This isn’t to say she doesn’t have fun…she spends her days with Amaltheia, after all. But it is always tempered with her constant vigil, watching for any potential danger to her charge.

In her mortal seeming, Lauria is better known as Laura Debrière, former detective of the NOPD. She retired from the force so that she could hire herself out to Amaltheia, to better serve as her bodyguard. But she still has connections with both the police and the criminal world.

Merits & Flaws

Concentration 1 pt. Merit You have the ability to focus your mind and shut out any distractions or annoyances. Characters with this Merit are unaffected by penalties from distracting circumstances (e.g., loud noises, strobe lights, or hanging upside down).
Eidetic Memory 2 pt. Merit You remember, with perfect detail, things you see and hear. Documents, photographs, conversations, etc., can be committed to memory with minor concentration. If you as the player forget an important piece of information the Storyteller believes your character would recall, the Storyteller will jog your memory. Under stressful conditions involving numerous distractions, you must make a Wits + Alertness roll to concentrate and absorb what your senses detect.
Bad Sight 3 pt. Flaw Your sight is defective. The difficulties of any die rolls involving the use of your eyesight are increased by two. The condition is too severe to be corrected.

Birthrights & Frailty

Unearthly Beauty Birthright Sidhe gain two additional dots of Presence, even if this brings that rating above 5. When they invoke the Wyrd (Changeling: The Dreaming, p. 259), this beauty becomes over-powering. If a sidhe invokes the Wyrd in the presence of a character, the player must roll Composure + Resolve (difficulty 8). If that roll fails, the character can only stare in awestruck wonder at the sidhe for one turn for each dot of the sidhe’s Presence.
Noble Bearing Birthright Sidhe carry a quiet dignity at all times. Cantrips designed to humiliate them or make them look foolish automatically fail (that does not prevent cantrips from harming them, of course, they just don’t lose their poise when it happens). Sidhe cannot botch Etiquette or Politics rolls.
Adoration Frailty Autumn sidhe are better with mortals than their Arcadian cousins, but that carries problems of its own. Any time an Autumn sidhe successfully enchants or even meaningfully interacts with a mortal (successful use of Intimidation, Expression, Leadership, etc.), the Storyteller should roll the mortal’s Willpower against a difficulty of the sidhe’s Glamour rating. Failure means that the mortal takes an extra interest in the sidhe, which can manifest as anything from persistently offering favors or discounts to asking personal questions or sharing unwelcome confidences, or even asking for pictures or autographs. It also means the mortal has no trouble remembering every word and detail of the interaction, which can be a problem for sidhe trying to remain inconspicuous. A botch on the roll indicates the mortal either develops an unhealthy fascination with the sidhe in the case of a positive interaction, or an obsessive hatred in response to a negative one.

House Fiona Boon Those swearing fealty to House Fiona are truly courageous, and fear holds no power over them. Even in the face of certain defeat, Fiona’s legendary reckless bravery continues to shine. As such, any attempt to generate fear in them, magical or natural, automatically fails. The only thing that can truly inspire fear in a member of Fiona is a direct threat to the life and safety of a lover; these attempts are not subject to automatic failure.
House Fiona Flaw Fiona’s passions easily become obsessions, and their recklessness in the face of peril quickly transforms into seeking out danger for danger’s sake. A faerie of this house finds ways to make even the more mundane passions, like food or drink, into hazardous activities — she’s the one eating the deadly fugu sashimi or challenging the troll twice her size to a drinking contest. In romance, especially, Fiona’s passionate nature attains lofty heights, with epic love affairs that often end in tragedy. When a member of House Fiona backs down from a challenge in order to avoid risk, they lose one Willpower.

  • The Ruby Eye: Lauria’s left eye has been replaced with a glass eye. In her fae mien, the eye is a multi-faceted ruby which gleams with chimerical light. With a Wits + Kenning roll, Lauria can see that which is hidden, whether by mundane or magical means. The difficulty is equal to 2 + the Skill or Art used to do the hiding.
